Building trust with your vocal team is a process, and allows for your coaching to be received eagerly and whole-heartedly. Because constructive feedback can be challenging for some, as a VD, do not neglect making “deposits” into your teammates- validating and recognizing what they have done well. This is not only an awesome encouragement to a teammate who has worked hard, but it’s also a great way to reinforce a good habit, and ensure it continues.
“Withdrawals” are just as necessary- when we see areas needing growth, it is to the benefit of our team to care enough to speak into these areas of opportunity. If our desire is to pursue excellence for the House of God, it will take refining.
Consider this: a bank account so depleted of resources that, when you go to make a withdrawal, suddenly you're overdrawn, and in the negative. This isn't something any of us wish to experience in our finances, so why would we want to in our team relationships? Let us ensure we make consistent and genuine deposits with our vocal team so that, when the time comes to make a withdrawal, we remain in the positive.
