The first step to a successful soundcheck is having everyone arrive on time. Time management is a large part of excellence, and a wise Vocal Director will get there early enough to not only welcome and connect with their team as they arrive, but be ready for any lingering questions. Also, be sure to work with your campus oversight if they would prefer an earlier arrival that the listed downbeat time in PCO.
As the Music Director and Worship Leader navigate the rehearsal time, the VD will want to ensure vocals are staying dialed in and attentive- even if a conversation may not pertain to them. Giving notes during this time can be helpful, so long as it doesn’t take away from the overall driving goal of the WL and MD.
This is also not the time for vocalists to be learning or figuring out parts, but adding the final touches to polish their part.
