Vocal Parts

All vocal parts will be written out within each song, with clean formatting and proper punctuation. Ensure all names and parts are clearly communicated, as well as any additional vocal notes or changes.

For example:

Authority

Joel to lead

Melody: Andessa, Paul

Alto: Ali

Tenor: James (double up melody on first bridge)

Follow vocal arrangement listed on PCO.

When making notes, find the sweet spot between under communicating and micromanaging. We don’t need VDs who will blindly assign parts without listening, but we also don’t need to craft new or complicated vocal arrangements for every song each week, either. Remember to constantly bring yourself back to the vision of the WL and the spirit of the songs in the setlist.

Vocal Line Up

Once you have added vocal parts, please also be sure to add the mic assignments to the Vocal Note on PCO, as well as the soundcheck song (you can collaborate with your MD in choosing this- ideally, a high dynamic song that can get a good level of vocals and band).

Ordering your vocalists may seem like a no-brainer, but once again, intentionality is always key! A few good rules of thumb:

  • As leader of the service, the WL will always be either be in the middle of the stage or splitting center

  • On either side of the WL will be other song leads for the service

  • Consider stage presence of each individual- dispersing high-energy vocalists will be better for the overall engagement of the congregation, rather than having them all on one side of the stage.
