In polishing details, the VD is also responsible for visual excellence. This could mean cleanliness and organization of the stage (in partnership with the stage manager), spacing and placement of vocalists and musicians onstage, and especially our dress and personal presentation- again for vocals and musicians.
If an individual needs to adjust any part of their appearance to meet our onstage standards, please ensure you are sharing feedback in a balance of honesty and grace. Don’t mince words, but do remember that appearance can be very personal to all of us.
Pointing our team back to the visual excellence guide on our website is a great resource, and even more so reminding them of the why behind our visual guidelines. Lastly, be sure you are referencing our team standard, and not your personal preference- style is subjective.
Taking a few extra moments to review onstage visuals is a great way to ensure we eliminate distractions, complications and reflect the heart and culture of our church with vibrancy and excellence.
