While preparing our craft is crucial to a powerful worship service, we’d be remiss if we didn’t prepare our hearts. If you are VD and an onstage vocalist, you’ll need to ensure that your personal preparation is extremely tight- this allows you to focus on the added responsibility of vocal directing the team. This means not only preparation in terms of your own parts, but also preparation in your spirit- you’ve connected with the Lord through this song, and understand the heart behind it.
This can look like reviewing, worshiping and praying over our songs and setlist, but it also can look like this: praying for our heart, our team, our congregation, our leaders, our speaker for this service, our city, and so on.
Overall, the more intimate our walk with Jesus, the more prepared we will be during a worship service- prepared to hear His voice lead us, prepared to follow our leaders and submit to their vision joyfully, and prepared to serve the kingdom of God with our gift.
